Dave

at times.

this much, but did choose my longer talk time blurbs for the sake
of the demo's. NOTE:
Some of the above content is not performed in all shows!
It's dependent on the venue style and or content policies of the
venue operator.
WARNING!
The above snippets contain mature content and may not be suitable
for all audiences!
Where
or what show were these demos taken from?
The
first one was live at an actual club... The' remaining' demos are
voice samples were taken live from an experimental social entertainment
idea I'm currently test piloting. Don't fall off your chairs
But it's a 'virtual' nightclub concept. The pilot has been in operation
for a year and has drawn a large international following. My Show
in this case, was built 'specifically' for this concept and in some
ways
Goes completely contrary to everything you'd typically
expect from a nightclub DJ. Just the way I like it
:-)
No
It's not by accident. I'm always complaining of how stale many facets
of the nightclub industry are, so I decided to put some of the nightclubbiz.com
revised approaches to entertainment into action. Make no mistake
This show caters to a female audience and so far
Overall results
of the test trial have been promising. Without getting knee deep
in details, that's about all I can tell you for now.
Keep
in mind that the shows are customized to each particular event /venue,
so the above demos do not necessarily reflect the content or style
I would use in a given application.
How
come 3 of the demos use slow jams in the background?
This
particular show was designed for a test pilot of a new concept I'm
trying out.. A virtual nightclub, which thus far has drawn quite
a crowd and highly diverse in age demographic. I'm not going into
all the details here, but in this test concept, slow jams and slow
dancing is what everyone wants to do, so the show was structured
around that. Otherwise no
I don't play slow jams all the time.
Your
microphone conduct is pretty crazy
You actually do this in
a nightclub?
For
the most part yes... I've always been crazy on the mic, but some
aspects of the show do push the envelop a bit. Keep in mind that
this particular show (see demos 2 through 3), was custom built with
a progressive entertainment consumer in mind, plus my audience in
this case is international. The show is being used in conjunction
with a new entertainment concept I'm experimenting with on a virtual
platform.
Preliminary
results have been promising with a sizable following for the show
and 75% of this following being female, all of which takes places
in a highly enchanting virtual nightclub, (as crazy as that
may sound). Whether or not this 'specific' type of show would work
in a bricks and mortar venue would be dependant on the social demographic,
but most notably the progressive nature of the audience.
Hey! That doesn't look like a nightclub DJ booth!
That's
because I'm not broadcasting from a nightclub right now. The shows
are broadcasted through the web in full CD quality. A basic makeshift
studio will suffice in this case.
Can
you really broadcast to anywhere in the world?
Yes
anywhere
All that's required is a laptop and DSL /Cable broadband
connection. Connection throughput requirements are very low. 300
Kbps will suffice, however most broadband connections nowadays are
minimum 6,000 Kbps or more, so again, Internet connection requirements
are tiny.
Where
is the DJ Dave Live Show best suited?
Conceivably,
there are no real limits to the types of venues or events I can
work, however I believe I am better suited to some environments
over others.
Hardcore
big city dance club:
Emmmm
Maybe, but would not be my first choice. These venues do not encompass
terribly much in terms of lively or interactive. If anyone heard
a voice at one of these, they might plunge into state of neural
shock. However, the DJ Dave Live Show may be an interesting choice
as an early night show or "opening act" for the main performing
DJ. Building early night interest is something I do well, since
standard DJ and dance beats have not been known to attract a great
deal of interest before the midnight hour. So
The 9:00 PM
to 12 Midnight slot might be worth trying me out in.
Smaller,
to midsize party bar /nightclub 50 to 500 people
YES!
These rooms can be really interesting and most notably if they're
attracting a broader range of age demographic. Honestly
I
don't like doing kiddy clubs and largely because a room of 19 to
23 year olds is about as boring as it gets. I gave up on these rooms
as of 18 years of age. I dunno
I could never seem to get into
them from a performers perspective. So please... NO kiddy clubs,
ok? LOL!
The
DJ Dave show is highly optimized for rooms of 50, to 500 people
and an age demographic of 24 to 35 years of age and up. Generally,
these rooms encompass a LOT of singles action and the potential
for crowd energy is off the top, "if" you have the right
DJ at the wheel. That may be the DJ Dave Live Show
To
test drive the show
Try me out early in the night, maybe between
9:00 and 11:00 for starters. If nothing else, I'll liven up your
early night audience.
Restaurant
/Bar
If
you've been pondering the idea of adding an entertainment component
to your restaurant /bar, you've also considered the prohibitive
cost of sound and lighting infrastructure
And the worst part
How to find a DJ
One that won't destroy the room.
The
DJ Dave Live show may be exactly what you're looking for
As
long as you have a standard music system already in place, the show
can be up and running within minutes. Tune it in on your laptop
and plug it into your sound system, just as you would a CD player
or other playback device.
Private
house party, wedding, or other event
Perhaps
one of the more difficult venues to find 'good' DJ's for is weddings,
private events, and house parties. While every second person you
meet may claim to be a DJ, the horror stories from 'events ruined'
as the result of amateur entertainers could easily fill an entire
encyclopedia.
The
fees a number of event and mobile DJ's demand is either shocking
or hilarious, depending on which way you look at it. $400.00, upwards
to $750.00? If you're going to commit to prices like that, hopefully
you've heard their performance at least once.. Or better yet
Several times before putting the fate of your event into their hands.
The
DJ Dave Live show can be customized for private events. An excellent
mix of music and a hot microphone personality ensure you are not
going to end up painfully embarrassed in front of your guests. The
DJ Dave Live Show does not require a stage and room for speakers,
etc. The show can be tuned into your home sound system, however
a larger PA is recommended for bigger events. I can help you with
determining whether or not this is necessary.
Mobile
DJ services are expensive, as both the agency and DJ need to make
money, plus you pay for the setting up and taking down of equipment.
You don't pay for any of that with the DJ Dave Live Shows, so the
costs in this case will be considerably less than you'd normally
pay. Most importantly, the entertainment performance will likely
exceed any mobile act you've ever heard :-)
Can
we get a free live demo in our venue?
Maybe
Contact me
with your venue type and I may be interested in doing a test run
for you. Right now, I'm sort of interested in trying out lounges,
small bars, or restaurant /bars who have a small audio system, but
currently play background music only. Tune me in and let's see how
it plays out. Larger Nightclubs and bars? Contact me and I'll see
what I can do.
What
are your shows like?
That
would depend on the venue and its objectives. Some call my shows
crazy, while others term them highly sensual or even steamy at times.
I won't lie
My show is focused largely at the female audience.
The female presence and their quality of experience is paramount
to the underlying success of any social entertainment venue. Guys?
They'll follow wherever there are females, no matter what happens.
That's just a basic law of social entertainment.
What
music do you play?
Everything
Depends on the mood of the room. My knowledge is extensive of everything
from the 70's through 2009. Yeah, I've been at it since 12 and have
worked an endless range of entertainment venues. I do not "spin"
one type of music so to speak
I tend to focus on keeping it
interesting, as in playing music that 80% of a room can truly identify
with at *ALL* times.
My
shows are best suited for rooms encompassing a diverse demographic,
and where demand is strong for a show of true entertainment performance
-not just endless hours of redundant beat music.
How
can we book /try out DJ Dave Live?
Contact
me here. I'll get back to you and we'll set it up. If you're
configured and ready to go, I can be broadcasting live to your audience
in under 5 minutes. The technical requirements
are simple enough, but have a closer look at them
here.
Do
you take requests?
Requests
are certainly possible for private parties, but in commercial performances
'not' recommended. Granted with a large number of amateur, or 'intuition
inept' DJ's, requests are heavily relied upon as some means to figure
out what to play next. As always, the result is mediocre, to sucky
music content. This is because the so-called DJ is essentially 'micromanaging'
a room of 40, to 1,500 people. In other words, we'll play to 'one
person at a time', while failing to perceive the broader demand
of a "majority" crowd. In essence, the DJ is a human jukebox
Throw me a quarter.. I'll play your tune. Yuk!
Real
pro performers can read a room, thus maintain content that is satisfactory
to 80% or more of the crowd at all times. The largest difference
here is "random tune selection", versus 'coherent music
programming'. In a commercial venue, the result is maximized liquor
revenue. If that were not the case, we could simply manage music
content with a jukebox in the middle of the dance floor. The larger
amount of crap music content observed in entertainment venues more
than adequately illustrates this.
The
other problem with requests is that they can divert a performers
focus from the room, and into extraneous dialog with a handful of
guests who want to hound the DJ all night. In this case, you spend
more time searching for songs, while being obligated to provide
clear explanations to aggressive or intoxicated guests as to why
a particular selection can't be played right now. Sigh
This
is the DJ Dave Live Show -Not the Dr. Phil Show :)
I've
heard DJ Dave can be a little raw at times -How raw?
Baby..
I like it REAL and I like it RAW! Not to worry though
I may
near the edge sometimes, but I never go over. Much of my on-air
interaction depends highly on the mood of the room. Indeed, most
DJ's balk at the idea of talking into a microphone, and because
Elmer Fudd himself would sound more appealing on the air, while
scaring off the majority female audience in most cases.
In
short, I'm not afraid of the mic and I know where and when to use
it. Used correctly, the mic can be a powerful weapon in taking a
room over the edge. It's a fine balance of knowing when to interact,
and or how far to take it, which is based on accurately reading
the mindset of a room.
No
big surprise
Most of my on-air antics are slanted towards
the female audience and to amazing lengths sometimes. I like the
ladies and am not afraid to communicate my thoughts to them on the
air, but in a tasteful way, however. Sometimes a little more sensual
than others, but rest assured
I am never crass or in bad taste.
But
the crowd can't see DJ Dave Live!!
Smirk
Have you seen what most DJ's look like? Why do you think they hide
in a DJ booth? Moreover, they rarely interact with a room
And most of them lack even basic social skills. Sorry, but I've
been in the nightclub operations arena for some time and that's
my personal opinion of most DJ's. Remember
I'm the one whom
is stuck with the job of hiring and managing them
By virtue
of this, I honestly don't know why anyone would believe they're
missing out on something over what? The absence of a DJ tucked away
in a dark corner somewhere?
If
it so happens the crowd wants to see me that badly, I will travel
to the location and perform live. For now, you can post pictures.
But seriously
Most people won't really notice that the DJ
is not tucked away in his little cubby.
As
an 'untried possibility', I could send a live video feed, which
you simply tune into your in-house video monitors, but again.. Is
that really necessary?
Can
your explain more at the 'technical level' on how your shows are
broadcasted?
There's
not a lot to explain. If you can plug in a CD player, you can plug
in my shows. Simply use a patch cord, which you plug into the 'line
output' on your laptop. The other end should have stereo right and
left RCA outputs. Plug those into any line in or AUX in on your
amp /receiver and you're good to go. Same if you're using a DJ mixer
Plug into any open channel. Tune in the show on Media Player or
Winamp and set your desired volume. That's it
Shows
are broadcasted at 192 Kbps stereo and this quality is awesome for
the majority of sound systems, however on large commercial PA rigs,
this can be increased up to 256 Kbps or more if required. I conduct
the sound checks with you.
Can
you act as an EMRGENCY standby DJ?
Yes,
provided I am not already on the air in the event of your emergency.
If I'm free, I can be on the air within minutes, provided you are
already configured for me. In this case, it's recommended you have
a laptop or desktop setup and ready to go at all times in your DJ
booth.
Can
you act as a fill-in between sets for live bands?
Yes,
if you're looking for a way to keep your room exciting and alive
during the time the a live band is on break, I can maintain that
energy for you, while plugging your promotions or drink specials
on the air.
Can
you promote our room, announce special nights, etc?
Yes
of course
I like announcements and I can make them hot, sexy,
or just plain listening friendly. Correct use of a microphone is
a most powerful weapon in advertising /marketing and this I can
do well.
We
want you to be able to see our guests, so you may interact more
personally
Those
who have seen and heard my shows in conventional nightclubs and
Second Life Nightclubs know just how personal I can get with the
female audience, and yes
It's pretty funny sometimes. In a
normal nightclub this is how I've always behaved as well. But what
you're wondering is, how would I do that if my presence in your
venue is virtual?
You
would need to be broadcasting live video of your club, or at least
the dance floor area. If you can send me clear, real time video,
I am able to interact with individual guests in real time. If a
staff member wants to send me a specific name, that makes it even
easier. Anything is possible...
We
do events at various venues, or we're a live band. We need a fill-in
DJ, and or strong voice to announce us on stage.. How portable is
the DJ Dave show?
It's
as portable as your ability to obtain a minimum of 300 Kbps. So
yes
If you have a laptop with wireless Internet, conceivably
you could take me anywhere. I recommend however, that you first
make sure you can obtain reception with the local Wireless Access
Point "inside the venue" first.
Depending
on the structure of the building and your proximity to the WAP,
it's possible to end up in a dead zone. Make sure you check first,
prior to the night of your event, which will determine whether I
can be a part of it. It's up to you, but I would not put a lot of
faith into a wireless connection, which is displaying much less
than 50% on the signal strength indicator. One way to optimize signal
strength is to use a Wireless Broadband Card with an 'external'
antenna.
Can
you do a live appearance?
Someone
asked me about this a couple of weeks ago. The answer is yes.. I've
performed in crowds of 150, upwards to 3,500 hundred people. Contact
me for more info.
Are
you the same Dave that operates the nightclub consulting services
on http://nightclubbiz.com?
Yes,
that is I!! I get asked this all the time. It's almost like some
are amazed that a nightclub consultant would actively be
involved in anything at the operational level. Quite frankly, I
am not sure how anyone could certify themselves as 'consultant'
unless they can verify an 'extensive' background, which encompasses
hardcore knowledge of the operational and entertainment sides of
the equation. AND they should be 'currently' active in some capacity!
Blogs and endless web page ramblings are not a substitute :)
Many
of the associated websites almost employ a bamboozling type of approach
through attempting to confuse readers with endless stories, which
range from being responsible for 10 nightclubs that earned millions
in revenues, to others who post endless lists of nightclubs they
claim they acted in a consulting capacity for. Sighhh
Little
is mentioned about their qualifying credentials, specific background,
or philosophical approach to entertainment product. Long "unsubstantiated"
lists of accomplishments and venue names are commonly used to divert
readers from posing the following questions: Can you provide legit
and supporting evidence to support these lavish claims? Can your
provide P & L's, a cash balance statement, a tax return, or
any 'legal' document that can verify the revenue performance you're
claiming, or how much of that performance can be attributed 'directly'
to your so-called consultancy?
The
answers as always is no, of course not
And here come
the silly reason's... The club is closed now
It's under a
different owner.. Lightning struck it
Or better yet, just
take our word for it. LOL... Just remember that despite the fact
that everyone and his mother's uncle is a nightclub expert, the
national nightclub failure rate remains steady at 70%! Me thinks
the experts had better go back to school for a few years :)
In
short
Those that can DO and those that CAN'T consult."
I operate, I manage, I educate, I entertain, and I'm committed to
the research and development of new social entertainment concepts,
(see my SL based virtual nightclub test pilot). Oh yeah
I
almost forgot
I consult too :-)
We're
thinking of opening a nightclub
Are you interested in participating?
This
question is still emailed to me frequently, so I'll include it here.
In the short, the answer is maybe
If it's a concept with a
solid plan and targets a lucrative demographic, I may be interested.
It needs to be hot, out of the box, and over the edge. I'm only
interested in party style bars /venues
No interest in the
likes of trendy dance rooms, or any room that's core focus is bleeding
edge dance beats. Preference is given to bars or nightclubs in Florida,
or some other 'warm' location where tourism is the main draw.
Additionally
I prefer working with female nightclub /entertainment operators.
In short, I find them better suited to understanding social entertainment
product at the 'in depth' level. Hey
I'm allowed to have a
personal preference, so don't start whining on me! Yes of course
I'll work with males
I'm just saying that some of my best
performing operations were accomplished with female counterparts.
DJ
Dave Live in Second Life
I also
do several shows a week on the Second Life grid as part of a much
larger project I've launched. These are a lot of fun and have developed
a strong international following. If you're in-world, contact my
assistant, the very sexy Sweetpea Capalini for my show times or
next appearance.
We
need a pro DJ for a Second Life nightclub, are you interested?
Maybe
My schedule is a little tight right now, but contact me
If
I like the venue, I may get a show or two in for you. Contact
me here
Can
you provide general overview of your background and skills?
I can't
go into it all, but here are few of the more interesting things:
I operate
an international nightclub operations consulting service. http://nightclubbiz.com
encompasses 22,000 pages of everything you could possibly want to
know about the development, funding, and operations of highly successful
entertainment ventures. Onsite, as well as telecomutting based consulting
services are also provided.
I've
worked the entertainment scene all my life and yes
I spent
many years in the booth. Actually, I still do today, regardless
of whether I've assumed an ownership or management consultant role.
The real cash flow in a nightclub is in the 'quality' of entertainment,
so that's an area I stay close to.
I
also posses an extensive background in server-side programming,
Unix administration, and network management.
One
of my latest offers is private relay servers for SL simulators.
These ones operate on a private server, as well encompass a number
of new hacks I've added to substantially enhance the quality and
usability of streaming music systems in Second Life.
I've also acquired a strong background in telecommunications systems
and programming, most of which centered on the Asterisk /Free PBX
open source platform. That means I also posses a keen understanding
of the VOIP model, as well as its implementations. I actually operate
my own VOIP server.
I also
provide consulting /custom build high-resolution digital video security
systems. These are all based on the newer H.264 high performance
compression engine. My systems offer 16 to 48-channles of video
(viewed from a remote location) at full TV quality, 30 FPS, over
a standard 3,500 Kbps DSL /cable connection. Many of my higher performance
systems ship with ½" CCD's for extreme performance in
under near, to complete darkness conditions.
But
what is it I like to do best?
At
present, any spare time I can find is allocated to an extensive
study in the fields of sociology and behavioral science -the core
focus centered on Neural-Decision and Social-Communication sciences.
In short
I believe the consistently high failure rate in nightclubs
entertainment venues is 'NOT' a result of bad luck or random happenstance,
but a lack of so much as an elementary understanding of the broader
level social entertainment consumer. In essence... What is going
on inside the heads of today's entertainment consider? Or shall
we keep trying to guess?
More
attention needs to be invested into a 'deeper' understanding what
it is today's consumer really wants out of social entertainment,
and I don't mean the paltry market of 19 to 24 year olds who make
up less than 6% of the 120 million single people in the U.S. alone.
I mean the larger, more lucrative marketplace
And to attract
their attention will require some insight into how nightclubs always
seem to manage to "turn more people off" than ON,
while being limited to a dinky 1, to 2 nights a week of decent business
at very best. Pathetic
So
what's wrong with this picture?
50%
of the nation is single
A 52% divorce rate
120 million
people in grand total
Almost zero singles entertainment options
And a 70% failure rate amongst nightclub entertainment offerings.
Oh
And the hundreds of nightclub consultants and experts all
clamoring about their seemingly endless portfolio of groundbreaking
successes. So where the hell is the talent? Umm... Would the last
person to exit the building turn out the lights please?
My
core focus at this point... Is the research and development of new
social introductory concepts. Making it easy people to meet, (not
hooking them up), but making it easy to establish first contact.
This should be considered
The keys to highly lucrative entertainment
product in a radically changing social landscape, which now encompasses
more singles than at any point in prior history.
Redesigning
the core nightclub model is only one of my considerations. I'm experimenting
with a few other possibilities, including the test pilot of a virtual
nightclub concept. In this 'controlled' environment, many of the
handicaps that plague the majority of conventional bricks and mortar
nightclubs have been eliminated, and replaced with more appealing
enhancements. Again
Results are preliminary, but VERY promising.
No
idea where my research will take me right now. Maybe use the virtual
nightclub model as simulated testing ground for more advanced social
entertainment concepts, before taking them into the tangible world.
You can really get a feel for how people are responding at the 'emotional
level' inside the virtual test pilot.
Who
knows, maybe virtual is the way to go because of its convenience
/easy access and all encompassing experience. Or
Maybe both.
No idea for sure yet
I should point out that we've had 3 successful
marriages result from these test pilots thus far. Hmmm
Interesting
huh?
On
the blackboard are a few additional half-baked concepts, which utilize
various types of GEO, GPS, and wireless technologies. No idea where
these will go yet, but one thing for certain is that fresh approaches
to a 21st century leisure consumer are desperately needed.
